So yes, BPM is important. Maybe even revolutionary. But getting BPM right remains a challenge as practitioners in the field know only too well. In many ways, BPM platforms have outpaced BPM practice. What that means is that while we do have the cutting edge technology platforms to build BPM solutions, the process of doing so still uses the old ways of IT.

So how do we do BPM right?
We believe that a tuned methodology is essential for successful delivery of BPM solutions by three key stakeholders:

• The Business Owner
• The BPM Group Owner
• The IT Owner

A successful BPM methodology should cover the full lifecycle of a BPM solution starting from Fitness Analysis (should we even use BPM?) through integration within the IT landscape, estimation, resourcing, the Analysis and Design phases, progress tracking through development, testing and finally integrating analytics and monitoring with process. And all of this should be done in a way that lays the foundation for continuous improvement by the Business Ownership after deployment.

The BPX Methodology has been developed by Techlogix has over the past 3 years and implemented at customers in Financial Services, Telecom, Government, Utilities and Manufacturing., We have also successfully used the BPX methodology across multiple BPM platforms including Savvion, IBM and Lombardi.

Case Study

BPM Done Right: A Global Leader in Hi-tech Manufacturing saves $100+ Million

The Challenge:
As part of its Integrated Supply Chain initiative, our client wanted to establish a new parts qualification planning process to give its business the capability to quickly adopt new sources, qualify new parts, move or expand production volume to support sales, sometimes with very short notice. The existing processes took several months during which much of the business impact – such as component cost reduction, capacity to support volume growth beyond forecast, greater quality to the customer at lower costs – was lost. Our client processed nearly 7,000 such parts qualification requests per year and due to practically little to no qualification planning, requesters had to sort through complex inter-departmental process flows on their own. This lead to a number of challenges including:

• Lack of visibility, control and tracking
• Prioritization conflicts
• Resource conflicts
• No record of historic performance data

The Techlogix BPX Methodology Delivers
Our client’s executive sponsors for this project put together a team of internal subject matter experts and Six Sigma practitioners. This team was lead by Techlogix consultants with deep experience in implementing business process improvement initiatives using the BPX methodology. Using a fast-paced 45 day rapid implementation plan, the team successfully designed a new unified Part Qualification process and implemented it using the Savvion BPM platform. The solution delivered:

• Central repository and control for all requests
• Prioritization dashboard
• Resource planning capability
• Live process control metrics
• Medium and long term performance data

Tangible Results
• Reduction in process cycle time from several months to less than one month
• First Year savings of $100+ Million

BPM Done Right. Every Time.
The true test of a methodology is not a single project success but a record of success. The Fortune 100 manufacturing company described earlier applied the Techlogix BPX Methodology to a process that was implemented and refined in four separate phases across eighteen months using the Savvion platform. Each phase was separately budgeted for and put into production. The Enterprise Project Management Office scored the project implementation 4.9/5.0. The metrics speak for themselves:

• Zero Schedule Variance over each project phase
• 25 Post Go-Live Issues over 3,000+ process instances
• Delivered at an average cost of $56/hr
